Lake Superior Area REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service

WHAT IS AN MLS?

An MLS, or Multiple Listing Service, is the database REALTORS® and real estate professionals use to share accurate, up-to-date information about property for sale or lease. It’s how a buyer working with one agent can see nearly every listed home in the area, and how a seller’s home gets in front of the widest possible pool of buyers.

The MLS covers more than single-family homes for sale. It also includes commercial property and rental listings, giving buyers, tenants, and investors the same kind of comprehensive, reliable access.

MLS databases are built and maintained collectively by real estate professionals, not by any single company or government agency, and they support every kind of brokerage so buyers and sellers can choose the model that fits their needs.

Listing information is typically available to the public through participating brokers’ websites and mobile apps and often appears on other real estate websites, giving buyers more ways to find accurate, up-to-date listings. Sensitive details, like a seller’s contact information or when a home will be vacant for showings, are kept private for safety.

For buyers, the MLS means comprehensive, reliable information in one place. For sellers, it means maximum visibility for their home. For the market as a whole, it means accurate data and an efficient, transparent process for everyone involved.
